The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States (LAS), Ahmed Aboul Gheit, received today, Tuesday, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat, Mr. Nikoa Pachanyan, the Armenian Prime Minister, who is currently visiting Cairo.
Jamal Rushdi, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General, stated that Aboul Gheit discussed with the Armenian Prime Minister ways to advance bilateral cooperation between the two sides in many fields. Aboul Gheit stressed the solidity of historical relations between Armenia and the Arab world as a major partner in the Caucasus region. Aboul Gheit also expressed his appreciation. The Armenian positions in support of the Palestinian cause, stressing his confidence that Armenia will continue its traditional role in support of peace, security and stability in the Arab region.
The official spokesman explained that the Armenian Prime Minister reviewed the latest developments in the crisis in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region with Azerbaijan, where he provided an explanation of the initiatives proposed by his country to achieve peace, as well as the principles of the peace agreement expected to be implemented between the two parties.
The official spokesman added, Mr. Pashinyan stressed his keenness to develop his country’s relations with the Arab countries and expand the scope of political cooperation with the Arab world under the umbrella of the Arab League.
