Members of the Ministerial Committee in charge of the Extraordinary Joint Arab-Islamic Summit, headed by His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met in the Swiss city of Geneva, yesterday evening, with the High Commissioner for Human Rights at the United Nations, Mr. Volker Türk, with the participation of His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates. For the State of Palestine, Riyad Al-Maliki, His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Retno Marsudi, and His Excellency the Secretary of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Hussein Ibrahim Taha.
During the meeting, they discussed the rapid events and dangerous developments in the Gaza Strip, the military escalation against defenseless civilians, and the importance of an immediate ceasefire, to ensure the return of security and stability to the Gaza Strip.
The members of the Ministerial Committee discussed with the High Commissioner for Human Rights the importance of stopping the grave violations committed by the Israeli occupation forces against civilians in the Gaza Strip, stressing the importance of the United Nations continuing its efforts aimed at an immediate ceasefire and creating the conditions to return to the path of comprehensive and just peace in a way that preserves the rights of the people. The members of the Ministerial Committee stressed the importance of applying international law and international humanitarian law, which preserves human freedom and dignity, and guarantees for all peoples, including the brotherly Palestinian people, a decent life in a sovereign and independent state.
The members of the Ministerial Committee also renewed their call on the international community to take all serious and urgent steps to ensure that relief corridors are secured to deliver urgent humanitarian, food and medical aid to the Gaza Strip, and to enable international organizations to carry out their tasks without obstacles, and to ensure full protection for them.
