Today, Saturday, 14th of this month, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States(LAS), received Mr. Hakan Fidan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, at the headquarters of the Arab League. The discussion session focused on developments in the Israeli escalation in the Gaza Strip.
Jamal Rushdi, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, said that the two parties agreed on the necessity of an immediate ceasefire and the provision of the necessary relief to civilians in the Strip, including by providing safe passages as quickly as possible and introducing humanitarian aid to the population whose suffering is increasing by the hour.
The spokesman quoted Aboul Gheit as confirming during the meeting that the explosion of the situation in this dangerous manner is logical in light of the political impasse and the absence of any horizon that gives the Palestinians hope for independence and a normal life, in addition to the systematic undermining of the components of the two-state solution.
On the other hand, the spokesman said that Aboul Gheit welcomed the improvement and development of Turkish relations with a number of Arab countries, which is in the interest of people on both sides.
He added that the Turkish minister invited the Secretary-General to visit Turkey as soon as possible.
