Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman and Director of the Public Diplomacy Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Mr. Sameh Shukri, Minister of Foreign Affairs, received a phone call, on October 12, from Yuko Kamikawa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, regarding the Israeli/Palestinian escalation.
The official spokesman for the Foreign Ministry stated that the discussions between the two foreign ministers dealt extensively with the latest developments in the escalation in the Gaza Strip and other separate areas, where Minister Shukri stressed the necessity of stopping the violent Israeli bombing of Gaza and refraining from continuing the escalation between the two sides as it is the current priority, warning of an increase in The severity of the humanitarian repercussions on the Palestinian people and civilians on both sides, as well as the consequences of expanding the circle of conflict on the stability of the region.
Ambassador Abu Zeid added that the two ministers’ discussions also touched on the deteriorating humanitarian conditions of the people of the Gaza Strip, as Minister Shukri stressed the need to intensify and coordinate international humanitarian efforts to support the provision of safe and urgent access for humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip in order to alleviate the humanitarian suffering to which the people of the Strip are exposed. This is in implementation of the responsibilities of states within the framework of international and humanitarian law, and in accordance with the humanitarian values and principles recognized by all states.
The official spokesman for the Foreign Ministry concluded by referring to Minister Shukri’s assertion that one of the reasons for the current crisis situation was the blockage of the political horizon towards finding a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, which requires all international parties to take into account during the coming period the necessity of supporting the achievement of the existing comprehensive peace. On the basis of the two-state solution, which preserves the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
The two ministers agreed to continue consultations over the coming days to support efforts to reduce the escalation.
