05 September 2023, CAIRO – The British Embassy in Cairo hosted an esteemed event to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Chevening Scholarships, a remarkable milestone that highlights four decades of empowering future global leaders. Coinciding with this significant achievement, the Embassy is pleased to announce the opening of a new round of applications for the prestigious Chevening Scholarships, starting from September 12 until November 7, 2023.
The celebratory event was hosted by the British Ambassador to Egypt Gareth Bayley, and brought together the 40th anniversary festivities with the Farewell event for the departing scholars of the 2023-2024 cohort. This unique occasion not only honored the history of the Chevening program but also provided a valuable opportunity for the newly selected scholars to connect with existing alumni associations and groups in the country. The event aimed to encourage active participation in these networks, fostering a sense of community and collaboration among scholars, alumni, and local partners.
The festivities included a welcome speech by Ambassador Bayley and Chevening alumnus, Dr Khaled Attia, Partner, Head of Dispute Resolution at Al Tamimi and Co. Additionally, the event marked the introduction of the new Chevening Alumni Association (AGTBE) Board members while expressing gratitude to the former board.
Speaking about the occasion, British Ambassador Gareth Bayley said: “The Chevening programme has been a cornerstone in the UK’s commitment to fostering global leadership and promoting positive change. As we celebrate its 40th anniversary, we reflect on the remarkable achievements of our Egyptian Chevening alumni who today have become influential leaders across various fields, in service of their country. I strongly encourage all aspiring Egyptian leaders to seize the opportunity and apply in the upcoming round of applications.”
