The KSA’s (kingdom of Saudi Arabia)Council of the Human Rights Commission expressed its condemnation of the burning of a copy of the Holy Qur’an by an extremist in front of the Central Mosque in the Swedish capital, Stockholm, coinciding with the first day of Eid Al-Adha, without the slightest regard for the feelings of Muslims around the world.
In a statement issued after the convening of the work of its eleventh session, chaired by His Excellency the President of the Commission, Dr. Hala bint Mazyad Al-Tuwaijri, the Council stated that these extremist acts that occurred in a number of countries represent a retrogressive step in the context of combating hate speech and extremism, and promoting tolerance and coexistence among peoples, as well as It represents a violation of the rights of Muslim minorities in those countries.
The Council stressed the need to intensify efforts aimed at spreading the values of tolerance and coexistence, and the importance of adhering to the principles and provisions stipulated in international human rights standards, which subject freedom of opinion and expression to the necessary legal restrictions in order to protect public order, national security, public health, public morals, and the rights and reputation of others. Any advocacy of national, racial or religious hatred that would constitute incitement to discrimination, hostility or violence, and the implementation of the principle of complementarity, interdependence and indivisibility of human rights.
The Council of the Commission called on the international community, represented by its entities and institutions, foremost of which are the United Nations organs and mechanisms concerned with human rights; By working to combat these acts that feed hatred and undermine efforts aimed at promoting tolerance and coexistence among peoples.
