The Acting Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al-Yabis, deposited – today – the document of ratification of the amendments to the International Maritime Organization Convention for the year 2021 AD, at the organization’s headquarters in London, in the presence of the Secretary-General of the Organization, Kitak Lim.
Al-Yabis stressed that this step embodies the great interest that the wise leadership attaches to international cooperation, and its keenness to contribute to achieving the goals and agreements of the International Maritime Organization, in line with the objectives of the national strategy for transport and logistics services, and in a manner that achieves the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
And she indicated that these efforts come as an extension of the Saudi initiatives to support the maritime sector, which are in line with international efforts, and because the global maritime sector represents a great importance and a strategic dimension for all other sectors, foremost of which is the global economy and the global trade movement.
The document ratifying the amendments adopted at the thirty-second session of the IMO Assembly, and approved by the Council of Ministers, contributes to increasing the number of member states of the IMO Council from 40 to 52 members, and extending the term of membership of the Council from two to four years, in addition to A number of other modifications.
