yesterday, the German Ambassador Frank Hartmann appreciated the start of the National Dialogue as follows:
“I am glad to see that, after a year of preparation, the National Dialog is finally starting substantial discussions. This can be a crucial moment in the lives of the Egyptian people as it may determine future social and political developments in this country.
The success of the National Dialogue will be measured by the question of how concrete results are eventually translated into tangible measures on the ground.
We encourage participants to be ambitious in achieving progress, especially in the fields of political rights, participation, rule of law, transparency and press-freedom. Among other things, the reform of the pre-trial detention system deserves special attention, as well as the issue of prisoners of conscience, which has been mentioned during the opening of the National Dialogue.”
