The Sultanate of Oman’s production of gas, in addition to the imported ones, increased by the end of the first quarter by 7.4% to 12.9 million cubic meters, of which 2.6 million cubic meters were associated, and 10.3 million cubic meters were not associated and imported, according to data published by the National Center for Statistics and Information.
Most of the gas production was used in industrial projects with 8.065 million cubic meters, oil fields with 3.2 million cubic meters, and 1.4 million cubic meters in power plants.
Oman is the largest exporter of liquefied natural gas in the Middle East after Qatar, with a maximum production capacity of about 11 million tons annually, and total gas revenues amounted to 3.5 billion riyals by the end of 2022, while gas revenues amounted to 521 million riyals at the end of last February.
The government seeks to strengthen its global position in the gas sector by diversifying international markets receiving gas, and strengthening strategic partnerships with various international companies. In the recent period, it signed a number of agreements with new companies, which reflects the importance of the strategic location that characterizes the Sultanate of Oman, and the importance of Omani gas to global markets.
The Mabrouk field in Concession No. 10 is one of the most important gas fields, from which the production volume is expected to reach 500 million cubic meters per day in the middle of next year, as the produced gas will be transferred to the gas network of the Okyo Group to feed local industries and LNG export facilities. The Okyo liquefied petroleum gas plant in Salalah is also one of the most important energy projects that contributes to strengthening the gas value chain in the Sultanate of Oman by extracting natural gas liquids through gas networks and pipelines.
