He said that the Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed that, based on Egypt’s firm conviction in the pivotal role played by the ancient organization in addressing the great challenges facing member states, Egypt has been calling for years the importance of supporting and developing the organization’s work mechanisms to keep pace with the requirements of the modern era, in order to assume its international status. Its decisions will have an impact on the international arena as it reflects the interests of the peoples of the Islamic world.
Al-Khan added that the Minister of Foreign Affairs called on the member states of the organization to benefit from the activity of the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Preservation and Peace-building in promoting international and regional peace and security by building the capabilities of states, to support cooperation in the fields of peacekeeping and peace-building, conflict settlement, dialogue, negotiation and mediation.
The Azerbaijani ambassador pointed out that Minister Shoukry touched on the issue of terrorism, as he stressed the need to adopt a comprehensive approach to address the roots of terrorism and extremism and their causes, pointing to the important role played by Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and the “Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism” in refuting terrorist and extremist discourse, and promoting moderate moderate thought. The ambassador also indicated that Minister Shoukry discussed the recent exacerbation of the phenomenon of Islamophobia and discrimination against Muslims in the West, including under the names of freedom of opinion and freedom of expression, which leads to a violent reaction accusing the Islamic world of terrorism. Ambassador Al-Khan said that Minister Shoukry opened the door to dialogue during the meeting with the ambassadors of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation countries, where a number of ambassadors praised the great interest that the Egyptian government attaches to preserving Islamic heritage and defending the issues of the Islamic world, especially the leadership and pioneering role played by President Abdel Fattah.
