Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zaid, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Minister Shoukry delivered a speech during the session in which he referred to what Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week represents as an important platform for discussing sustainable economic and environmental interactions in the region and around the world, noting that this year’s version of this event is of particular importance. It is being held at the beginning of the road after the COP27 conference, leading to the next session of the COP28 Climate Conference, which is scheduled to be held in Dubai at the end of this year.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman stated that Minister Shoukry reviewed during his speech the most important outputs of the Sharm el-Sheikh conference and its results, as the conference represented an important milestone that emphasized the feasibility of multilateral action and its ability to achieve tangible results. He explained that this was evident in the Sharm el-Sheikh summit for the implementation of climate pledges that permeated the conference, with the participation of about 120 heads of state and government, in which they affirmed their political will to enhance climate action, which ultimately resulted in the adoption of the “Sharm El-Sheikh plan to implement climate pledges” with the unanimous consent of the participating countries. , with the aim of enhancing the ambition of climate action and accelerating the achievement of desired results in various aspects of climate action.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs also highlighted the success of the COP27 conference in including the item dealing with climate change losses and damages within the agenda of climate conferences, in a precedent that is the first of its kind. Sheikh to move and provide the necessary support to millions of people who suffer from the consequences of climate change and its effects in various parts of the world.

An ambitious agenda for adaptation to climate change was also agreed upon, paving the way for the adoption of a framework for the global goal on adaptation during the next session of the Climate Conference.
Ambassador Abu Zeid added that the Foreign Minister also highlighted the serious call launched by the Sharm El-Sheikh Conference to multilateral development banks and international financing institutions, in order to reconsider their policies in a manner that ensures giving the necessary priority to enhance efforts to mobilize climate finance and facilitate access to it by Interested parties. Minister Shoukry also referred to the great interaction witnessed by the COP27 conference with various parties concerned with international climate action from civil society organizations, as the number of participants reached about 12,000 participants over the various thematic days that took place during the conference to focus on various topics related to climate change, Such as energy, water, agriculture, decarbonization, biodiversity, the role of women and youth in climate action, and other priority climate issues.

He added that the upcoming climate conference in the UAE will be an opportunity to build on the successes of the Sharm el-Sheikh conference, stressing Egypt’s full readiness to support and aid the brothers in the UAE in a way that contributes to the COP28 conference achieving the desired results of international climate action in its various aspects.
