President of COP27 receives US Secretary of Agriculture

Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the COP27 Conference, received today, Saturday, November 12, the US Secretary of Agriculture, “Tom Vilsack”, in conjunction with the activities of the Day of Agriculture and Adaptation to Climate Change within the various thematic days that permeate the Sharm El-Sheikh Climate Conference.
In a statement to Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he indicated that Minister Shoukry was keen to express appreciation for the strategic relations between Egypt and the United States, praising the level of technical cooperation between the two sides in the vital agricultural sector in both countries.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman added that Minister Shoukry also referred to the importance of agriculture in order to achieve food security, which is currently witnessing a global crisis in light of the repercussions of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, as well as the negative effects of climate change on agriculture and food availability, noting in this regard the peace call made by the President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi during the Sharm El-Sheikh summit to implement climate pledges in order to stop the war, whose negative repercussions affected everyone.
Ambassador Abu Zeid concluded his statements, revealing that the American minister stressed the importance that the United States attaches to active participation in the various activities of the COP27 conference, reviewing in this context the various initiatives addressed by the American side during the conference, foremost of which is the AIM for Climate initiative. Which aims to deal with the issues of climate change and hunger by mobilizing the necessary climate finance.
