Dr. Nabil Helmy, Professor of International Law, former Dean of the Faculty of Law and member of the Legislative Reform Committee, will participate in the international conference organized by the Faculty of Law, Ain Shams University, on November 5 and 6, under the title “Legal and Economic Aspects of Sustainable Development in the Light of Egypt’s Vision 2030,” under the auspices of Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University. Dr. Mohamed Safi, Dean of the Faculty of Law, in scientific partnership with the University of Cambridge and the Center for International Sustainable Development Law. The conference comes in line with the global event COP27, which is organized in Sharm El-Sheikh from 7 to 18 November.

Dr. Nabil Helmy’s participation comes at the conference’s invitation to him to chair the second session on the first day of its activities, which deals with “substantive aspects of law and climate change” and deals with “legislation, jurisprudence and sustainable development”, “environmental legislative reforms – an overview of renewable energy”, and the disposal of Carbon emissions, “The legal basis for civil liability arising from environmental damage”, and “Criminal liability of companies for environmental violations – the upcoming sanctions regime in Germany”.

The conference will discuss environmental protection and efforts to reduce climate change in times of armed conflict in a session to be organized in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The conference will also address issues related to the environment and climate change in a session to be organized in partnership with the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL). .

A number of international partners will participate in the conference in organizing a range of scientific activities on the sidelines of COP27, foremost of which is the Climate Law and Governance Day for this year, which will be held online on Friday 11 November.
