Chairman of the Permanent Committee for Arab Media
Dear Excellencies
Ladies and Gentelmen
I am honored to welcome you as we meet on the land of Kenana in the framework of the 52nd session of the Council of Arab Information Ministers. All initiatives in support of his sovereignty in order to advance the process of joint Arab action, including in the media field.
I also extend to my dear brother Mr. Karam Jabr, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Media Regulation and its Secretary General, Counsellor Mahmoud Fawzy, and all members of the organizing team, my sincere thanks for the tight organizational arrangements in close cooperation with the General Secretariat to hold these meetings, starting with the meeting of this esteemed committee.
This is the mechanism that, in accordance with the requirements of the Basic Law of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, plays a pivotal role in the process of joint media work, as it is a permanent technical committee that monitors the development of media strategies and plans, and studies draft decisions that are submitted to the Executive Office in preparation for their approval by the Ministerial Council.
In this context, the Executive Office recommended during its last session last March in Baghdad the necessity of ensuring the high representation of member states in this committee and developing its performance in order to achieve more efficiency in carrying out its tasks to the fullest.
In accordance with the requirements of the statute, the Technical Secretariat Department in the Media and Communication Sector has prepared a set of documents, proposals and initiatives that will be studied in this session, looking forward together to reach practical and meaningful recommendations on the various items on the agenda.
Thus, the session will examine a number of issues, topped by the continued Arab media support for the just Palestinian cause, at its core, the situation in occupied Jerusalem, including Israeli violations against Palestinian media professionals, while they perform with a high degree of selflessness the message of honor and honesty.
