Today, Monday, July 4, 2022, Ambassador Hossam Zaki, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Secretary-General’s Office, participated in the opening of the Arab-Brazilian Economic Forum, whose fourth edition is being held in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo under the slogan “Heritage and Innovation”, along with Secretary of State at the Presidency of the Republic for Strategic Affairs Flavio Rocha and a number of important Arab and Brazilian personalities.
An official source stated that Ambassador Zaki delivered a speech that began by praising the efforts made by the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce to consolidate relations between Brazil and the Arab world.
Ambassador Zaki noted the importance of the forum, pointing to the importance of the topics it deals with and providing an opportunity to consult on developments in the global economic situation and extrapolate its future, and to consider the best ways to benefit from these developments to enhance Arab-Brazilian relations to meet the aspirations of both sides.
The source said that Ambassador Hossam Zaki referred in his speech to the deterioration of the global economic situation and the tremors he was subjected to due to the accumulation and intersection of suffocating crises that left heavy effects that cannot be treated individually, calling on everyone to reconsider the mechanisms of international solidarity to develop them in a way that is appropriate to confront these effects. . In his speech, he pointed out that crises also provide opportunities that must be exploited to enhance Arab-Brazilian cooperation. In this regard, he reviewed some figures of economic exchange between Brazil and Arab countries, praising the remarkable increase that he witnessed in 2021 compared to 2020, as it exceeded $24 billion.
In the same context, Zaki called on Brazilian economic operators to invest in the Arab region and take advantage of the opportunities it offers and the advantages offered by the Greater Arab Free Trade Zone supervised by the League of Arab States, expressing his confidence in the positive role that the Brazilian Arab community can play. To build fruitful partnerships between the two sides.
On the other hand, the ambassador pointed out that the Arab-Brazilian relations include, in addition to the economic aspect, the files of political cooperation and the Arab-South American cooperation in which Brazil plays an important role.
It should be noted in this regard that the forum is held periodically in cooperation between the League of Arab States, the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, the Federation of Arab Chambers and a number of partners, and is witnessing high-level participation from the Arab and Brazilian sides.
