Rooted historical relationships
The relations between the Sultanate and Egypt have gone through several historical stages, as the relations date back to 3500 years ago, when Queen Hatshepsut, Queen of Egypt, sent her merchant fleets to the Omani Dhofar to carry its luxurious frankincense that was used in the perfume of the Pharaonic temples, and when Amr ibn al-Aas conquered Egypt, a number of Of the Omani tribes at that time, and historical indicators confirmed the survival of individuals from Oman and later formed some tribes.
– Sayyid Sultan bin Ahmed (1792-1804) declared his dissatisfaction with the French campaign against Egypt in 1798, halted the Franco-Omani negotiations that paved the way for a treaty between the two countries, and declared his official protest against France’s aggression against an Arab Muslim country.
On January 13, 1944, Sultan Said bin Taimur visited Egypt for the first time, and met King Farouk and a number of Egyptian figures in the government of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Nahhas. And he discussed the possibility of studying his son Qaboos in Egypt, in order to consolidate stronger and stronger relations. On April 17, Sultan Said bin Taimur arrived in Jerusalem by train from Cairo.
Oman declared its support for Egypt during the tripartite aggression in 1956, and feelings of anger exploded throughout Oman, and hundreds of Omanis expressed their willingness to participate in Egypt’s national struggle against the aggressors.
One of the honorable stances of Sultan Qaboos, may God rest his soul, when he launched a historic initiative and issued a decree during the October 1973 war to donate a quarter of the salaries of Omani employees to support Egypt while sending two Omani medical missions to Egypt.
– In 1977, the Sultanate of Oman refused to sever its relations with Egypt because of its signing of the Camp David agreement with Israel. Sultan Qaboos, may God have mercy on him, said at the time: “Egypt does not boycott, isolate, and does not die because of its stance.”
This approach continues in Oman’s renewed march under the leadership of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, as he affirmed in his first speech on January 11, 2020 CE, to follow Oman’s approach in its relations with brothers and friends. Omani officials always stress that Egypt has priority and attention for its pioneering and fundamental role in the locomotive of the Arab nation.
