During his participation on behalf of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, in the activities of the thirty-eighth ordinary session of the African Union Summit, hosted by the Ethiopian capital “Addis Ababa”, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, met today with Ms. Marie Antoinette Rose Cater, Executive Director of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), in the presence of Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, Ambassador Ashraf Sweilem, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for African Organizations and Groups Affairs, and Ambassador Mohamed Gad, Egypt’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative of Egypt to the African Union.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Prime Minister stressed the important role of the African Peer Review Mechanism, Egypt’s constant keenness to support it, and work to ensure the financial sustainability of the mechanism, in an effort to achieve the desired goals of the mechanism with greater effectiveness.
In this regard, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly noted the approval of the Subcommittee on Budget and Administrative Affairs under the Egyptian presidency to allocate a supplementary budget of about $1.5 million, including about $1.1 million from the reserve fund funded by member states, stressing in this context Egypt’s keenness to complete the approval of this allocation, which comes as a confirmation of Egypt’s support for the mechanism’s efforts and enhancing its role.
The Prime Minister pointed out that a decision is being issued to form the new national committee concerned with the work of the African Peer Review Mechanism, explaining that Egypt intends to focus on the administrative reform file during the upcoming voluntary review, stressing its readiness to share the Egyptian state’s experience in this file with sister African countries to transfer expertise in this field and benefit from the results achieved in this vital file.
In the same context, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly stressed Egypt’s readiness to cooperate with the African Peer Review Mechanism in the field of public administration and capacity building, and to provide its expertise to various member states of the African Union.
For her part, Ms. Marie Antoinette Rose Cater expressed her appreciation for the efforts and support provided by the Egyptian state to the African Peer Review Mechanism, to play its role more effectively during the coming period, stressing the continuation of cooperation and coordination with Egypt in many topics and files that are important to the work of the mechanism, and benefiting from Egyptian experiences and expertise in many of those files.
