The next historical person of the project of the Ministry of Education “Famous Teachers of Garabakh” is Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev.
Abdurrahim bey Asad bey oghlu Hagverdiyev was born in Agbulag village around Shusha suburb of Karabakh district in 1870. Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev, who was a writer, playwright, pedagogue, literary critic, theater figure, coryphaeus of classical Azerbaijani literature, gave lectures on literature at the Azerbaijan State University (Baku State University -present), operated as enlightened educated man.
Abdurrahim Bey Hagverdiyev wrote that the role of theater in the enlightenment of the people was irreplaceable: “The best way to talk to the people, to call them to culture and enlightenment was the theater stage.” One of the highest goals of the writer was to bring up children in the spirit of devotion to national and moral values, to instill love for the Motherland. The idea of Abdurrahim Bey Hagverdiyev’s story “Father and Son” is the true expression of the writer’s life: “Blessed is he whose name lives on in tongues after death, and who is remembered with reverence and mercy.”
İt is worth mentioning that the “Famous Teachers of Karabakh” project provides information about famous people born in Karabakh and formerly engaged in pedagogical activities. The aim of the project is to commemorate the famous teachers of Karabakh these days when we are happy with the news of the victory of the triumphal Azerbaijani Army.
In May 2020, the 150th anniversary of one of the prominent figures of realist Azerbaijani literature Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev was celebrated. Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev, who has a special place and value in the history of Azerbaijani literature and national theater, is known not only as a prominent writer and playwright, but also as a director, conductor, editor, translator and literary critic.
On January 31, 2020, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed an order to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev, who entered the history of literature with his classic stories and tragic works.
