On the occasion of the ordination of His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria, Patriarch of Saint Mark. Barramussi is the new bishop of the Coptic Church in eastern Canada, ambassador Ahmed Abo Zade, Egypt’s Ambassador to Canada, participated in the celebration held at St. George and San Antonio Coptic Orthodox Church in Ottawa, on Thursday evening, September 5.

The Egyptian Ambassador and the members of the Embassy were keen on the participation of the Egyptian Coptic community to celebrate the occasion, which witnessed a large presence of church people, leaders of political parties, members of the Federal Parliament and the Ontario Parliament, as well as representatives of other churches in the capital Ottawa.

The Egyptian Ambassador Ahmed Abo Zade delivered a speech on this occasion emphasizing the history of the Coptic Church in Eastern Canada, which was established in 1964.It is considered one of the first Coptic churches outside Egypt, pointing out that the new diocese that includes Ottawa, Montreal and Eastern Canada plays a pivotal role in connecting the sons of The Egyptian community in their home country.

Mr Abo zade stressed the keenness of the embassy to continuously communicate with the Coptic Church in order to serve the children of the community, praising the volume of cooperation between the Egyptian Embassy and the Egyptian Coptic community in various parts of Canada in order to implement initiatives and projects aimed at supporting Promote the Egyptian image and promote Egypt in Canadian society.

This program witnessed a gathering of senior officials to get acquainted with the new bishop, followed by prayers at the headquarters of St. George Church and San Antonio Coptic Orthodox Church. Michael Perek, personal representative of Andrew Sher, chairman of the Canadian Conservative Party, MPs John Fraser and Mona Fortier, members of the Canadian House of Commons, as well as a number of Catholic priests in the capital, Ottawa, delivered speeches in which they welcomed the new bishop.

In his speech at the end of the celebration, His Holiness thanked the Egyptian Ambassador for his participation and support to the Coptic Church and Community in Canada, pointing out that the role of the Coptic Churches around the world lies in linking the Coptic community to their motherland and working hand in hand with the Egyptian diplomatic missions in Egypt.
