Telegraph – Depending on Manchester City’s result against Brighton, it could turn into a bumper title-winning party at Anfield for Liverpool after 29 years of waiting to lift the trophy. Or an anti-climax if their rivals get the job done on the South Coast. Either way, with all games kicking off at the same time, it should be an exciting afternoon of Premier League football.
Mohamed Salah, Jordan Henderson and Andy Robertson are all likely to be fit for Liverpool’s Premier League finale at home to Wolves.
Salah missed the midweek Champions League win over Barcelona with concussion, while Henderson (knee) and Robertson (calf) both sustained injuries in that match.
Forward Roberto Firmino, however, is still out with a groin problem although manager Jurgen Klopp expects him to be fit for the Champions League final on June 1.
Provisional squad: Becker, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson, Wijnaldum, Fabinho, Milner, Salah, Mane, Origi, Gomez, Moreno, Lovren, Henderson, Shaqiri, Sturridge, Brewster.
Wolves could be unchanged for their final day trip to Liverpool.
Boss Nuno Espirito Santo has no fresh injury worries ahead of the game at Anfield with the Reds a point behind Manchester City, needing them to slip up at Brighton to stand any chance of winning the title.
Ruben Vinagre, Adama Traore and Helder Costa are all pushing to start after being on the bench.
Provisional squad: Patricio, Ruddy, Norris, Doherty, Bennett, Dendoncker, Boly, Coady, Gibbs-White, Jonny, Saiss, Neves, Costa, Moutinho, Cavaleiro, Vinagre, Traore, Jimenez, Jota.
What are they saying?
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on returning to their Premier League bid following the Barcelona win:
“You get millions of messages (following the win over Barcelona) and no one speaks about the weekend. It was for sure one of the best moments in football history, not only Liverpool. But Wolves want to show they do not want to be passengers.
“Focus is not a problem. We are not used to moments of glory, but we win from time to time. Coming in on Wednesday you needed a hammer to punch the smile out of faces.”
Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo:
“I want to be involved in every game, even in a pre-season game I’m always involved.
“The players rise for every game and training session, this is the philosophy. It’s a big game and we want to play it.
“I like Liverpool, the way they play with the intensity they have, it’s hard to find someone who didn’t enjoy the game against Barcelona (the 4-0 Champions League semi-final win). It was amazing.”
What’s our prediction?
Their midweek comeback win over Barcelona will have provided a timely boost to the players ahead of what could be a potentially tricky game against Wolves. Knowing they have to better what rivals Manchester City achieve on the South Coast sets the game up for a enticing encounter. Expect Liverpool to get the job done. But so will City.
