The participation of the Sultanate of Oman in the Thirty-ninth Summit of GCC Leaders, held in Riyadh on December 9, 2018, reflects the interest of the Omani political leadership in supporting the GCC process and providing historic initiatives to advance the Gulf system.
Over the past 37 years, the Sultanate of Oman has not been late in providing initiatives and visions in various political, security and economic fields that support its progress and overcome any obstacles to its achievement. Therefore, during these years, the Council’s leaders worked towards achieving its objectives Which is in the interests of the people of the Gulf and the development of their relations with countries and peoples.
Since the start of the construction process in the Sultanate of Oman in the early seventies of the last century, Oman has given special attention to support and expand cooperation with the Gulf States, not only by virtue of the special relations between their peoples over time, but also by the necessity of work and coordination and cooperation among them, The common and mutual interests on the one hand, and the challenges facing the region on the other.
Since the establishment of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in May 1981 and until today, 37 years after the establishment of the Council in order to achieve all that can achieve the interests of the States and peoples of the Council in various fields, And what can also benefit the countries and peoples of the region as a whole and promote the chances for peace and stability in the present and future.
In the light of the great importance of promoting and enhancing economic cooperation among the GCC States, and taking steps on the path of implementation of joint projects among GCC countries, which are beneficial for sustainable development, the Sultanate discussed means of activating GCC economic cooperation by implementing the relevant resolutions, Sustainability of the overall Gulf development. The Sultanate also supported the views of the Consultative Council of the GCC Supreme Council on issues aimed at developing joint action and supporting Gulf citizenship.
Political analysts confirm that the role of Oman in bridging the rift between the conflicting parties is inherent and rooted in Oman’s neutrality and impartiality in negotiations, which is confirmed day after day, whether by regional or international parties praising Oman’s diplomacy.
The main objective of Oman’s foreign policy is that the Gulf remains calm and Arab, and that the GCC remains viable despite all the problems and crises.
The policies and positions of the Sultanate of Oman have been clear, frank and transparent in dealing with different positions, developments, Gulf, Arab and international, both bilateral, multilateral or collective.
The Omani diplomacy has won the confidence and appreciation of all, and the Sultanate is an active actor in all efforts to achieve the peace and stability of the countries and peoples of the region and the world around it.
