Upon Africa Forum 2018, Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri met Moussa Fakih, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, on the sidelines of the Africa 2018 Forum. They discussed means of enhancing cooperation between Egypt and the Commission, especially under Egypt’s presidency of the African Union in 2019.
Minister Shukri welcomed the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, expressing Egypt’s appreciation for the keenness of the Chairperson of the Commission to participate in the “Africa Forum”, which has become an important event on the African investment and trade arena at the regional and international levels.
The Foreign Minister also expressed his hope for close coordination with the President of the Commission during the coming period at all levels, especially Egypt’s presidency of the African Union soon.
Hafez said that Shukri reviewed the efforts of Egypt and the arrangements related to the Egyptian presidency of the African Union during the next year. The Foreign Minister referred to the importance of the political leadership in supporting African economic integration and enhancing the infrastructure in the continent and patterns of sustainable development action, with a view to achieving the desired development of the peoples of the African continent.
For his part, “Faqih” praised the pivotal role of Egypt, expressing his aspiration to the Egyptian presidency and close cooperation in this regard. The meeting also discussed the exchange of views and ideas on the subject of institutional reform of the African Union.
